Does Frosted Flakes have red 40?
As of today, Kellogg makes 7 different products in their Frosted Flakes line. I have made a chart to show which of these products contain red 40 and other artificial dyes.
Product | Red 40 | Yellow 5 | Yellow 6 | Blue 1 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® cereal | X | X | X | X |
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® cereal with Marshmallows | ✓ | X | ✓ | ✓ |
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® Cinnamon French Toast | X | X | X | X |
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® Cereal Bars | X | X | X | X |
Kellogg’s Chocolate Frosted Flakes® | X | X | X | X |
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® Strawberry Milkshake | X | X | X | X |
Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® Minecraft with Marshmallows | X | ✓ | X | ✓ |
Note: “✓” indicates that the product contains the specified food dye, while “X” indicates that the product does not contain the specified food dye.
For the most part, the Frosted Flake cereal including some of the different flavor options do not contain artificial dyes for color.
The two types of Frosted Flakes that include marshmallows are the ones to worry about. The flakes themselves are fine, but the marshmallows do include artificial dyes like red 40, yellow 5, yellow 6, and blue 1.
I am sure that Kellogg’s just like General Mills is having difficulty making dye free marshmallows. Other cereals like Lucky Charms include marshmallows and are not dye-free.
